Motorcyclist killed after being struck by driver changing lanes on Beltway 8

HOUSTON, TX – A motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving a possibly intoxicated driver on Beltway 8 in East Houston early this morning, according to KTRK.
The crash occurred on the Beltway 8 (N Sam Houston Parkway E) feeder road, near Tidwell Road, at about 1:30 a.m., when the driver of a Mazda 3 went across multiple lanes while attempting to make a turn.
The Mazda collided with a motorcyclist, causing him to collide with a curb, and then a pole.
The 40-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.
The driver of the Mazda, who remained at the scene after the collision, was not reported as injured.
Authorities believe the driver may have been under the influence at the time and took him into police custody.
