1 dead, 1 hospitalized after crash on SH-249 caused by alleged drunk driver

HOUSTON, TX – A crash on State Highway 249 caused by an allegedly drunk driver led to the death of one person and the severe injury of another early yesterday morning, according to KPRC2.
The crash happened in the 11600 block of SH-249 at about 12:50 a.m., as the driver of a southbound pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed. He reportedly failed to maintain a single lane and crossed over the center line and into the lanes of oncoming northbound traffic. There, he collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was stopped at a traffic light.
A male passenger in the Trailblazer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the same vehicle was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, who has been identified as Donnovan Garcia, was reportedly showing signs of intoxication when the crash happened. He is facing a charge of intoxication manslaughter and a count of aggravated assault in connection with the collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
