Woman loses unborn child after ATV accident in Houston’s Fifth Ward

HOUSTON, TX — An unborn child died Monday, a day after a woman was injured in an ATV crash involving a horse during a private event in Houston’s Fifth Ward, reports Houston Chronicle.
Houston police said the incident occurred during a birthday hay ride in the 4700 block of Providence Street, near Finnigan Park, at approximately 4:50 p.m.
An early investigation indicates a pregnant woman was a passenger on a three-wheeled ATV when it backed into a horse. The move caused the animal to then back into another ATV behind it.
Both ATV drivers, the pregnant woman, and another passenger in the second ATV, were all ejected from the vehicles.
Only the two drivers and the other passenger were transported to a local hospital, as authorities were initially unaware that the pregnant woman was a passenger on the first ATV.
Police only later learned the female passenger was 28 weeks pregnant. The unborn baby died from injuries suffered in the accident.
