Woman dies after two-vehicle collision at NW Houston intersection

HOUSTON, TX — A 76-year-old woman died late Saturday morning after an SUV collided with her car in northwest Houston’s Spring Branch East neighborhood, reports Houston Police Department.
HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the fatal crash occurred in the 7500 block of Hammerly Boulevard at approximately 10:50 a.m.
According to authorities, the victim was behind the wheel of a silver Honda CR-V going northbound on Thonig Road when she attempted to cross Hammerly Boulevard after stopping at a stop sign. The Honda was hit by a driver in an eastbound Ford Expedition believed to have been speeding. The collision caused the Honda to travel toward a property along the 2100 block of Thonig Road, where it collided with a parked pickup truck.
Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
At this time, no charges have been filed against the other driver, but an investigation remains ongoing.
The case is expected to be referred to a grand jury.
