Woman dies after single-vehicle hit-and-run on IH-10 in east Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A woman died early Sunday after a single-vehicle collision on the East Freeway near Houston’s Greater Fifth Ward neighborhood, according to Houston Police Department.
The fatal crash happened in the 3400 block of the freeway at approximately 3:00 a.m.
An early investigation indicates a man was driving a gray Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck on the roadway when he hit a barrier several times before coming to a stop on the shoulder.
Witnesses on the service road told authorities they heard a disturbance and a male voice shouting.
A female passenger in the pickup was later found deceased by first responders.
The male driver fled the scene on foot but later went to the HPD Homicide Division the same evening. Authorities then learned of his involvement in the crash and that the female victim had been ejected from the vehicle.
An investigation by the HPD Hit and Run Unit is ongoing.
