Woman dead after her vehicle crashes, lands upside-down in flooded bayou

ALDINE, TX – A woman died after her vehicle crashed and went into a flooded bayou near Hardy Road early this morning, according to KHOU.

The crash happened in the 14000 block of W Hardy Toll Road, near West Road, at about 3:30 a.m., when the driver of a black passenger vehicle, identified as Philana Atkins, crashed into a bridge embankment. The impact caused her vehicle to overturn and land upside-down in the flooded bayou beneath the roadway.

Atkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dive team was called to retrieve the wreckage of the totaled vehicle.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash at this time.
