Wheeler – Fatal Vehicle Accident on FM 1046 Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured

Last Wednesday, a vehicle collision on Farm to Market Road 1046 resulted in the death of one person, according to a local news source.
Just after 5:00 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety received an alert about a two-car collision on FM 1046. A 2005 Ford Taurus has been traveling along the eastbound lane when, for reasons that had not yet been determined, it ignored a red signal and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck that was heading north. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into a barrow ditch nearby.
The Taurus driver, identified as 20-year-old Gavin Whitten, Oklahoma resident, was injured and taken to a hospital with serious injuries. He was listed in stable condition. His passenger, identified as 17-year-old Katelyn Freeman, was also taken to a hospital with fatal injuries. She succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Occupants in the pickup truck were not injured.
