Based on a preliminary investigation, Freeman was a passenger in a 2005 Ford Taurus that was traveling along US 83. As they approached a traffic light, the driver, whose name has not yet been released, ignored the red light and crashed into another car.
The impact of the crash killed Freeman. Meanwhile, the Taurus driver was hurt and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He sustained fatal injuries but was listed in a stable condition. Two occupants in the second vehicle did not sustain any injury. They were wearing their seat belts.
