A Thursday morning collision between two vehicles on U.S. 287 took the life of a 63-year-old woman, according to a local news source.
At around 5 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety officials responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 287 near Pigg Road. A preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 2016 Toyota Corolla was traveling north on Pigg Road when it ran a stop sign and drove into the right lane of U.S. Highway 287. The Toyota then crashed into a white Ford E-250 utility van that was heading south on the highway.
Both drivers of the Toyota and Ford vehicles were rushed to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, the Toyota driver succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as per Ellis County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Steve Egan.
Another victim sustained injuries but authorities said that he is expected to recover.
What caused the Toyota driver to drifted onto the opposing lanes is yet to be determined by authorities.
Texas is among the states in the US that have the most car accidents which involved injuries and fatalities every year. Some of the common factors contributing to the rising cases of collisions in the area include the worsening traffic situation, weather conditions, and poor driving habits.
Bad driving habits are the greatest cause of a fatal crash. It can be lethal to the person behind the wheel, as well as the drivers on the road. Drivers who do not use their signal to change lanes or those who do not secure their blind spots before shifting direction are more likely to be involved in an accident. Some of the most dangerous driving habits include speeding, unsafe lane change, tailgating, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you or someone you love has been a victim of a car accident with a negligent driver, you have a right to fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
