A fatal car accident between a motorcycle and an SUV took the life of one person on Valley Mills Driver, late Saturday night.
Just after 11:00 p.m., local officers responded to the 1400 block of North Valley Mills Drive following a collision. A driver of 2011 Dodge Nitro, who had just pulled out from a business parking lot, was driving along the northbound lanes when it was rear-ended by a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle that was heading south.
The force of the impact sent the rider off of his bike, injuring him in the process. He was rushed to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries a few moments after he was checked in. His identification remains unknown until his family has been notified.
The driver in the SUV was not injured.
Based on a preliminary investigation, speed may have played a role in the collision. The investigation is still in progress.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the injured victim. We strongly believe that the Waco Police Department will do everything to bring those who are responsible to justice.
Car collisions are extremely prevalent in Texas. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, one person is getting injured in approximately two minutes. Unfortunately, despite the government’s aggressive efforts to educate drivers about safety, the cases of speeding, driving under the influence, and negligence are still on the rise. In fact, most of the common causes of accidents in the state are due to the driver’s lack of awareness and precaution.
Knowing the statistics helps us to be more aware of how our choices can affect other people’s lives. For instance, driving while under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs dramatically increases your risk of being involved in a crash by roughly 16% and 24%, respectively. While these cases are extremely dangerous, these can be prevented by making the right decisions. So before hitting the road, know that car accidents leave scars and trauma that can be devastating for the victims. For this reason, it is important that you take all the necessary precautions to avoid it.
