A 32-year-old drunk driver is now facing third-degree felony charge following a vehicle collision on Interstate 35 early Sunday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The driver was identified as Ocie B. Easley. He is charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious injury.
Based on the initial report, the crash took place in the southbound lane of I-35 near Mile Marker 342. When authorities responded to the scene, they found a 2018 Chevrolet Impala in the grass median with serious damages. The impact of the collision seriously injured Easley’s passenger. She sustained three fractures to her left leg, responding officers said. It was not determined if she received medical treatment on scene or in a hospital.
During the preliminary investigation, officers found two glasses of alcohol on the floorboard of the car. Easley was taken to custody after a field sobriety test.
Drunk driving in Texas commonly result in a serious injury and sometimes, death. While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise.
While it can be difficult to remain calm in a situation like this, it is important to know that you can be entitled to compensation and claims following a collision. If you or your loved one has been injured in a car accident caused by a negligent party or someone who was driving recklessly, you may have a right to a fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
