Victoria County—Rene Villarreal Dies Following Crash on US 87

The Victoria County Police Department has released the name of the Port Lavaca man who died following a vehicle collision on US Highway 287, Wednesday.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Rene Israel Villarreal. He was pronounced dead at Citizens Medical Center.

According to initial reports, a 2003 Chevrolet driven by William Alexander Orsbon, 19, of Inez, was attempting to make a left turn to Farm-to-Market Road 1090 from the southbound lanes of U.S. 87. However, Orsbon failed to yield to a northbound 2018 Kia Rio driven by Villareal, causing the Kia to struck the right side of the Chevrolet.

Both drivers were rushed to Citizens Medical Center where Villarreal was declared deceased. Meanwhile, Orsbon is being treated with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
