Van Zandt County – Donald James Identified Victim of SH 198 Crash

A 29-year-old Canton man was pronounced deceased following a solo-car crash on State Highway 198 in Van Zandt County last weekend.

Authorities identified the fatality as Donald James Long, 29, of Canton.

Just after 6:00 a.m., local officials responded to SH 198 following reports of a vehicular accident. According to police reports, Long was driving a 2007 Hyundai Sonata along SH 198 when he drove off the roadway and crashed into a driveway. Long continued on, striking a fence post and a tree. The impact seriously injured Long. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said Long lost control of his car after approaching a curve. It was not clear if speed played a factor in the accident.
