HOUSTON, TX — A 39-year-old woman died early Saturday after an Uber she was riding in was rear-ended by a truck on the Southwest Freeway in west Houston, reports ABC13.

The fatal accident occurred near Newcastle Drive in the Afton Oaks area at approximately 3:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer when it began exhibiting mechanical trouble in a moving traffic lane. As the vehicle came to a stop, it was struck from behind by a truck.

Houston police said the victim, who had been sitting in the back seat of the Mitsubishi, was killed in the crash.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 50-year-old man, suffered broken ribs and was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities said the 30-year-old driver of the truck was not reported injured. He stayed after the crash and cooperated with the investigation. He was not charged in the fatal crash.
