UPDATE: Woman fatally hit by driver on IH-45 NB near Friendswood

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 29-year-old woman died Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle outside her pickup truck on the Gulf Freeway near Friendswood, reports Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident occurred in the 19000 block of the freeway (South Interstate Highway 45), near Baybrook Mall, at around 7:40 p.m.
According to the department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the woman was driving a black Ford F-150 northbound when the pickup truck lost its front tire, causing the vehicle to disable between the right lane and right shoulder. The woman then got out of the pickup and stood on the shoulder as she made a phone call.
A 20-year-old man was driving a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northbound in the right lane when he approached the disabled vehicle. He swerved to the right and collided with the Ford and the woman outside her vehicle.
Authorities confirmed the victim died from her injuries at the scene.
The male driver cooperated with officers at the scene and was later released. He was not suspected of impairment.
No further information has been shared at this time, but an investigation remains ongoing.
