Update: HPD officer suspended after fatal collision in Northside

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston police officer involved in a collision that cost the life of a 75-year-old man late last month has been relieved of duty, Click2Houston reports.

The fatal collision happened at about noon on Sunday, December 27. Charles Payne, 75, had recently left church services and was driving south in the 4600 block of North Shepherd Drive. As he turned left onto Thornton Road, his brown Cadillac CTS was struck by a northbound HPD patrol vehicle.
Payne was rushed to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The officer, who was also hospitalized with minor injuries, has been suspended pending an internal police review of the incident. They have not been publicly identified.
