HOUSTON, TX — A 27-year-old male driver has been charged after fatally hitting a couple last Sunday while he was intoxicated and speeding in west Houston, reports ABC13 Houston.
The crash happened in the 6100 block of Westheimer Road, near Briargrove Drive, on March 27 at about 9:20 p.m.
Houston Police said two pedestrians, a husband and a wife, were crossing a dim area of the road outside of a crosswalk when they were hit by a black BMW driven by the suspect.
Authorities said a passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot, but the driver remained at the scene. He was found to be intoxicated and speeding at about 70 miles per hour at the time. The suspect was booked into jail and has since been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
On Wednesday, March 29, the suspect was expected to appear before a judge in court but did not show up.
