HOUSTON, TX – An Uber driver is dead and three people are injured following a high-speed pursuit and multi-vehicle crash Sunday morning in west Houston, according to KPRC2.
The incident began on the Katy Freeway, near Fry Road, at about 1:30 a.m. when a 2019 gray Chrysler 300 refused to make a stop for a Sheriff’s Deputy and attempted to speed away from the officer.
During the chase, the police vehicle hit a rideshare car from behind and then ran off the side of the roadway.
The driver of the rideshare, 40-year-old Bismark Asare, was taken to the hospital and there pronounced dead.
After the collision, the suspects got out of their vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot by running across the freeway.
A passenger in the fleeing vehicle, a 17-year-old male who was initially thought to be the suspect and was reportedly on bail from a felony charge, was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-critical injuries.
Asare was transporting a passenger at the time, who was taken to a local hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.
The sheriff’s deputy involved in the chase was also taken to a hospital after receiving minor wounds in the collision.
Alcohol is believed to have factored into the high-speed chase.
Police continue to search for the female suspect, who is facing possible felony charges of a hit-and-run accident.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
