The deceased victim was named as 28-year-old Steven Joseph Almanza. He’s driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander when the accident took place.
According to initial reports, a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Emily Catherine Moore was heading south on FM 14 when it drifted onto the opposing lanes and collided head on with Almanza’s Toyota.
The impact of the collision left Almanza with serious injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. A passenger in his vehicle also sustained injuries and was listed in critical condition in an area hospital. She was later identified as Jenny Paine, 31, of Dallas.
Authorities are still determining the reason why Moore hydroplaned onto the northbound lane of FM 14. An investigation is ongoing.
