HOUSTON, TX — Two people died Sunday night after being struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing a road in Houston’s Mid-West area, according to ABC13 Houston.

The fatal incident occurred in the 6100 block of Westheimer Road, near the Briargrove Plaza shopping center, at about 9:20 p.m.

Houston police said a couple was trying to cross a dimly-lit area of the road, away from a marked crosswalk, when they were hit by a BMW.

It was unclear whether the couple, a husband and a wife, died from their injuries at the scene or at a hospital.

The driver, who stayed after the crash, was found to have been traveling at double the posted speed limit. They were also suspected of intoxication at the scene and may face charges of intoxication manslaughter.
