Two charged in fatal collision on the South Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – Two people were charged in connection to a fatal collision that took place on the South Freeway on Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
Authorities say a black Kia Stinger and a silver Dodge Challenger were racing near 6500 South Freeway when the Kia hit the Dodge and then crashed into a concrete divider around 11:20 a.m. Two people were thrown from the Kia and one of them, an unidentified woman, died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Dodge, William Delawrence Lewis, originally fled the scene but eventually returned with family members.
The driver of the vehicle, Kelly Mac Kenzie Mattox, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She has since been charged with racing causing death in the 178th State District Court. William Delawrence Lewis has been charged with a failure to stop and render aid and racing causing death.
