LA PORTE, TX – A toddler died from injuries sustained in a crash on Wednesday, March 24, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Authorities say Rafael Sierra was driving a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia and towing an empty tractor-trailer when he attempted to turn into a parking lot near 2400 Independence Parkway South. He failed to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle driven by Kieroni Banks, who then struck Sierra’s car.
Banks was driving in the car with three children — all four were hospitalized after the crash. Unfortunately, one of the children, a 3-year-old girl, died of her injuries on April 7. Both Banks and the other children survived.
Sierra was not injured. The incident remains under investigation.
