The Pleasant Police Department has released the name of the victim who died in a fatal car accident on Interstate 30 near Mt. Pleasant, Monday.

The fatality was identified as Derry D. Chism. He is a 46-year-old resident of Peoria.

According to initial reports, Texas Department of Public Safety officials responded to a collision on Interstate 30 just after 2:00 p.m. A Freightliner truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer was resting on the shoulder of the highway when a sport utility vehicle, for yet unknown reasons, veered off the roadway and rear-ended the semi.

The driver of the SUV, Derry Chism, was ejected from his vehicle as a result of the collision. He was pronounced dead by emergency crews. According to police, he was not wearing a seat belt.

Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-trailer, identified as Joshua Allan Beach, 30, of Sulphur Springs, sustained injuries from the impact. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
