HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have charged the man responsible for a suspected DWI collision that left a 5-year-old dead and injured two other children injured on Saturday.
According to HPD, 30-year-old Paul Rodriguez was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord weaving in and out of traffic on the Southwest Freeway, near Chimney Rock Road.
Police say the Honda struck a semi-truck and continued speeding down the roadway. Moments later, Rodriguez veered to the right, where he hit a Mercedez-Benz and a box truck.
The force of the impact caused a 5-year-old passenger in the Honda to be ejected. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died a short time later.
Rodriguez and two other male children were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released and charged with murder, intoxicated assault, and driving while intoxicated with a child under 15.
