Suspect charged in a fatal hit-and-run on the North Loop

HOUSTON, TX – A suspect was charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place on the North Loop on Saturday night, the Houston Police Department reports.
The victim was walking near 4500 North Loop when he was struck by a red Chevrolet Lumina driven by 84-year-old Pedro Diaz-Cruz. The victim was then hit by a second vehicle, a black Chevrolet Silverado.
Diaz-Cruz stopped at first but then fled the scene. He was followed to his residence by a Harris County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable, who then arrested him. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
