Just before 4 in the afternoon on Sunday, January 20, 2019, one woman was killed after an accident that happened in Stephenville.
Justin Schrader, 24, was driving a black 2013 Dodge pickup with a male passenger when he hit an unidentified 40-year-old woman in the 100 block of Morgan Mill Road. The woman was then pronounced dead at the scene.
The 38-year-old male passenger was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, while Schrader is being held at the Erath County Jail.
Schrader was charged with public intoxication in 2012, 2013, and 2017, and with racing on a highway and evading arrest in January 2018.
Car accidents like this are fairly common nowadays. In a statistics done by the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and there is always a car accident that results in death every 16 minutes. This can be translated to roughly about 6 million car accidents every year and about 90 people dying in car accidents every day just in the U.S. alone.
DUI accidents are a particular type of car accident, and they are incredibly appalling. Alas, they still continue to happen on a daily basis. According to the NHTSA, about 28 people die every day as a result of drunk driving crashes, and in 2010, 10,228 people died in drunk driving accidents — one every 52 minutes — while about 345,000 were injured. These statistics do not bode well at all, and something has to be done to stop these numbers from climbing up.
If you are a victim of a car accident/DUI accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please don’t hesitate to ask for help. The police will always be there to help you, but more than that, car accident lawyers are always willing to help you in protecting your rights and getting you the justice that you deserve.
