Smith County- Wrong way collision on Highway 64

The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating a car accident the left one person hospitalized and another dead on Highway 64, Friday.
According to initial reports, at around 11:07 p.m., a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup was heading west on the eastbound lanes of State Highway 64 when it collided with an eastbound 2006 Ford Focus. The impact of the collision instantly killed the driver of the Ford Focus. He was identified as David D. Nelson, 43, of Tyler.
The driver of Dodge Ram sustained injuries and was taken to UT Health in serious condition. He was later identified as Caleb Marsh, 21, of Rusk.
Authorities are still determining why Nelson was driving on the wrong side of the road.
The investigation is underway.
