Smith County – Three-Car Accident on State Highway 64

A fatal multi-vehicle accident on State Highway 64 sent two people to the hospital, Wednesday afternoon.
At around 5:22 p.m., local troopers were requested to assist in a three-car crash on SH 64 near County Road 294. According to the report, a 2016 Ford Fusion was heading west on the highway when it collided with a 2012 Kia passenger car that was traveling along the eastbound lane. The Ford then spun and crashed into a passing 2015 Jeep SUV–also in the eastbound lane. The driver of the Ford, who was later identified as Ryan Curbo of Henderson, fled the scene but was later located by authorities. He was transported to UT-Health in Tyler for treatment.
The driver of the Kia and Jeep were severely injured from the force of the impact. They were rushed to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler where they were listed in serious condition.
After receiving medical treatment, Curbo was then taken into custody on two charges of intoxication assault with a vehicle.
An investigation is still underway.
