Smith County – Sherri Estelle Oney Died in Fatal Vehicular Accident on Highway 271

The Smith County Police Department has released the name of the driver who died after a fatal car vs concrete barrier collision on Highway 271, last Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Sherri Estelle Oney, 33, of Marshall. According to initial reports, Oney was driving a 2005 Volvo XC9 along the northbound lanes of Hwy 271 when it crashed into a concrete barrier. According to police, Oney tried to avoid a slow-moving group of vehicles ahead but ended up striking the barrier. The impact of the collision left the Marshall driver with serious injuries. She was rushed to UT Health – Tyler where she was later pronounced by Judge Andy Dunklin.

Fortunately, no one else was injured.

Further details regarding the incident have yet to be released. The crash remains under investigation.
