Smith County – Marshall Woman Dies in Fatal Crash on Highway 271

A 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead after getting involved in a deadly vehicular accident on Highway 271, Sunday afternoon.
Just after 2:00 p.m., Smith County local officials were requested on Highway 271 approximately 3.5 miles southeast of the city of Winona to assist in a collision involving one vehicle. According to initial reports, a 2005 Volvo XC9 was seen traveling along the northbound lanes when its driver failed to negotiate its speed as it approaches slower moving traffic. Authorities said that driver tried to avoid crashing into a group of vehicles only to hit a concrete barrier.
The driver was transported to UT Health – Tyler where she was later pronounced by Judge Andy Dunklin. Her identification has not been released at this time.
Fortunately, no one else was injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
