Smith County – Auto Collision on County Road 285

Last Friday morning, a two-vehicle accident on County Road 285 resulted in the death of one person.
Just after 10:00 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a fatal collision on CR 285, three miles east of Tyler. According to initial reports, a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck had been traveling along the eastbound lanes of the highway when its trailer suddenly got detached and drifted into the opposing lanes where it struck a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The driver of the F-150 sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. He was pronounced at the scene of the crash by Judge James Meredith and taken to Lighthouse Mortuary in Tyler. His passenger also sustained injuries. He was transported to UT Health-Tyler in stable condition. Their identifications were withheld.
It was not confirmed if the driver of the F-250 pickup truck sustained any injury.
