Several roads closed following Texas City industrial accident

TEXAS CITY, TX – An industrial accident involving a rail car with a cargo of styrene has led to the closure of several roads in Texas City, according to a report by KHOU.
Few details have been released yet, except that the accident occurred in the 2800 block of Farm-to-Market Road 519 East.
Styrene is a chemical used in the manufacturing of latex, resins, and synthetic rubber. At high levels of exposure, it can cause eye and respiratory irritation, with long-term exposure linked to problems dealing with the nervous system.
Roads impacted include Farm-to-Market Road 1765, Farm-to-Market Road 519, TC Y, and Southloop 4th Avenue South.
It is unclear at this time if anyone was injured in the accident.
