The San Antonio Police Department has released the name of the girl who passed away after getting struck by a vehicle on Moursund Boulevard, Monday.

The victim was identified as one-year-old Corinna Tovar. She was with her mother when the accident took place.

According to initial reports, the tragic collision happened in a parking lot in the 300 block of Moursund Boulevard at around 2:00 p.m. Baby Corinna was sitting in the baby seat of a shopping cart as her mother loads groceries into their car. A vehicle, traveling at an unsafe speed, made a wide turn into the parking lot and hit the cart head-on. The mother and another woman were also struck in the process.

All three victims were rushed to University Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, baby Corinna succumbed to her injuries a few moments later. The extent of the injuries of her mother remains unknown at this time. Her identification was not immediately released.

We are deeply saddened by the news of baby Corinna Tovar passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased. May God grant you with the strength to go through this difficult moment of your life.

In the United States, Texas is one of the leading states in the number of traffic collisions involving fatalities. In fact, in 2015 alone, the state recorded more than 1,300 deaths caused by intoxicated drivers. Despite the government’s aggressive efforts to keep DUI-related collisions down, Texas remains the worst state in the country for alcohol-involved car crashes.

What are the penalties for drunk driving in Texas? Depending on a driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) and other circumstances, they can be charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and face punishments such as jail time and thousands of dollars of fines. They could also face civil lawsuits from any victims of their reckless behavior.
