San Antonio – Gerardo Martinez Ortiz Died Following Truck Crash on I-10

The San Antonio Police Department has released the name of the driver who died in a fatal truck accident on Interstate 10, Monday night.

The fatality was identified as 51-year-old Gerardo Martinez Ortiz. According to police, Ortiz was driving a Chevrolet Silverado along I-10 Northeast Side when he slowed down due to a construction project. Meanwhile, a green Freightliner 18-wheeler truck that was traveling at an unsafe speed struck the rear side of the pickup truck driven by Ortiz. The impact pushed the pickup onto another 18-wheeler trailer, reports said.

Ortiz suffered from serious injuries as a result of the collision. He was pronounced deceased by emergency crews.

No one else was injured.

Law enforcement officials have yet to determine the charges to be filed against the driver at fault. The crash remains under investigation.
