Rusk – Car accident injures one on U.S Highway 69

Authorities are still looking into a crash that left one person injured on U.S Highway 69, Sunday evening.
Local officers arrived at the scene in response to a crash report at approximately 6:40 p.m. A 2003 Ford F-150 pickup reportedly collided with a tree at the 1300 block of U.S Highway 69.
The collision trapped three occupants in the vehicle. One passenger, identified as 71-year-old Thurman E. Massey, died from the impact. The driver, identified as 37-year-old George Smith, sustained unknown injuries and was transported to UT Health Tyler via air ambulance. Another passenger, identified only as a 17-year-old juvenile, also suffered from injuries and was transported to Children’s Medical Center for treatment.
No other vehicles were involved. Investigators were requested at the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
