Robertson County – Christopher Verne Florida Died Following a Vehicle Crash on FM 979

58-year-old man was pronounced dead after getting involved in a two-vehicle accident on Farm to Market Roaad 979, last Thursday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident took place west of Calvert on FM 979 at Black Bridge Road. A vehicle heading east along FM 979, for yet unknown reasons, drifted onto the opposing lane and collided with a semi-truck that was traveling along the westbound lanes. Police said that the semi-truck tried to avoid the wrong-way vehicle by shifting onto the eastbound lane but to no avail.

The 58-year-old driver, identified as Christopher Verne Florida, suffered from serious injuries. He was pronounced dead by local paramedics who responded to the scene. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injury.

Authorities are still determining what caused Florida to drift onto the opposing lanes.
