Riviera – Man Died after A Wrong Way Collision on US 77

A fatal wrong-way collision on Highway 77 caused the death of one person, Monday.
At around 1:00 p.m., local troopers were dispatched on US Highway 77 near Riviera in response to a call reporting a crash involving a semi-trailer truck. According to the report, a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading south on the highway when, for reasons that had not been determined, it crossed the center line and drifted into the northbound lanes. A 2020 Freightliner semi-trailer truck that was traveling along the northbound lanes was not able to avoid the pickup truck and collided with the pickup.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified only as a resident of Edinburg, was pronounced dead by the Kleberg Justice of the Peace at the scene. Fortunately, the driver of the Freightliner was not hurt.
The Corpus Christi Police Department is still investigating the accident.
