Rains County – Matthew Harkins Died Following SH 276 Collision

A 41-year-old man was killed in a fatal car accident on State Highway 276 in Rains County.
The fatality was identified as Matthew Charles Harkins, 41, of Garland.
At around 10:30 a.m., police responded to a car crash on SH-276 after they received a call reporting the incident. According to the investigation, a 2017 Nissan Versa driven by Matthew Harkins was heading east on the highway when it drifted over the center line and crashed into a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Harkins was killed upon impact. Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle was rushed to Christus Trinity Mother Francis – Sulphur Springs in serious condition. She was identified as Debra Askew Hallman, 66, of Quinlan.
No one else was injured.
An investigation is underway.
