Person dead after fiery truck crash on Houston Ship Channel bridge

HOUSTON, TX – One person died after being ejected in a fiery collision involving an 18-wheeler truck on the Houston Ship Channel bridge early this morning, according to KHOU.
The crash happened on I-610 southbound near the Houston Ship Channel at around 3 a.m., when the driver of a white passenger vehicle crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler truck.
The impact sent the smaller vehicle into a nearby barrier, and the driver was partially ejected. The passenger vehicle also caught on fire and was reportedly impaled onto the truck.
Emergency crews managed to free the victim from the wreckage. Despite the use of life-saving measures, however, they were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not immediately released.
The truck driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation. They are not suspected of having been under the influence.
Authorities continue to investigate at this time.
