HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on the South Freeway near south Houston’s Sunnyside area, according to KHOU11.

The fatal incident occurred on the northbound lanes of the freeway’s feeder road near West Bellfort Avenue shortly before 6:11 a.m.

Details are limited, but authorities said the victim, described as a man in his mid-40s to mid-50s, had been walking along the road when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. Its driver continued driving, failing to stop and render aid.

Houston firefighters arrived to find someone applying CPR to the victim, but that person soon fled the scene without reporting to authorities. It was not immediately clear whether the person was involved in the collision.

By 7:12 a.m., Houston Police confirmed the victim had died from his injuries.

No further information has been released at this time, but investigators are currently working to identify the suspect vehicle from debris found in the area.
