Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver on Beechnut St in SW Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A 35-year-old man died early Monday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in southwest Houston’s Westwood neighborhood, according to Houston Police Department.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division said fatal incident took place at 9501 Beechnut Street at approximately 1:40 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a driver in a white pickup truck was heading eastbound on the road when they failed to maintain their lane, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway. The pickup crashed through the fence of a nearby apartment complex, striking the victim, who was walking on the sidewalk inside the complex’s fence-line, and pushing him into a vacant apartment.
Authorities confirmed the victim died from his injuries at the scene.
The causing driving then reversed the pickup and fled the scene without rendering aid.
An investigation and search for the suspect remains underway.
