Pedestrian hit and killed by U-Haul while walking on Hwy 6 in Mission Bend

MISSION BEND, TX – A man was killed in the Mission Bend area last night after being struck by the driver of a U-Haul truck, according to a tweet published by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
District 4 and traffic units are working a fatal auto pedestrian crash at 7355 SH 6 S. An adult man killed in the roadway when struck by a rental van. Driver is on scene and does not appear impaired. Avoid the area. HWY 6 closed southbound and only 1 lane open Northbound. pic.twitter.com/pZrvRHvkFU

The accident happened at 7355 Highway 6 South, near Empanada Drive, at about 8:15 p.m.
The victim, an adult man whose identity was not immediately revealed, was walking in the highway when he was hit.
The pedestrian died of his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene after the accident and is not thought to have been under the influence.
No other injuries were reported in the collision.
HCSO officials closed southbound Hwy 6 and most of the northbound lanes for the investigation of the accident.
Authorities warned travelers to avoid the area, as traffic delays from the road closures were likely.
