HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man died last Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on State Highway 6 near Mission Bend, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal incident took place in the 6800 block of the southbound highway, south of Bellaire Boulevard, shortly after 6:30 p.m.
Authorities said a purple 2006 Hyundai Azera was traveling southbound in the left lane ahead of a silver 2012 Dodge Charger and a gold 2009 Toyota Corolla. The victim attempted to cross the highway on foot from west to east, failing to yield to the right of way of traffic. He was then struck by the Hyundai and came to rest in the left-turn lane of the northbound highway. The Hyundai arrived at a stop in the left lane, with the Dodge also coming to a stop behind the car. The driver of the Toyota performed a maneuver in an attempt to avoid striking the Dodge, but its front left quarter hit the Dodge’s back right corner.
The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was rushed to West Houston Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
No other injuries were reported.
An investigation into the crash by the HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division was underway.
