HOUSTON, TX — One person died Monday night after being struck by a vehicle on Farm-to-Market Road 529 in northwest Houston’s Eldridge Crossing neighborhood, reports the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal incident occurred in the 13000 block of FM 529 Road at about 8:40 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows the a blue Subaru Outback was heading westbound when a red SUV came out of a private driveway south of FM 529 and entered the road, crossing the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes, in the path of the Subaru. To avoid the SUV, the Subaru quickly changed lanes to the outside lanes, where it struck the pedestrian, who had failed to yield to traffic before crossing the road. The impact of the crash pushed the pedestrian west onto the second lane.
The victim was rushed to HCA Houston Healthcare – North Cypress Hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
An investigation is being led by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
