Passenger dead, driver hurt after car crashes into pillar in possible DUI

HOUSTON, TX – A woman was killed and another was hospitalized after a car collided with a pillar in the Galleria area last night in what police believe may have been a drunk driving crash.
According to KHOU, the crash happened in the 2700 block of Fountain View Drive near Westheimer Road at about 7:15 p.m., after a driver ran off the side of the road and crashed into a pillar in the median.
Authorities had to cut open the doors of the vehicle in order to extricate the driver and her passenger from the wreckage.
The two women were sent to the hospital, where the passenger was later pronounced dead.
The driver was taken into treatment for undisclosed injuries and is expected to make a recovery.
The victims have not been identified pending family notification.
Police believe that the driver may have been under the influence when the crash happened. She may be facing a possible intoxication manslaughter charge at some point during the investigation, which continues at this time.
