Last Wednesday, a suspected drunk driver caused a collision on Interstate 10 in Orange County.
According to initial reports, the incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of I-10 and Texas 62. A Ford pickup truck that was traveling on the opposite direction traveled up the exit ramp and through the westbound lanes where he struck a number of vehicles and continued on. An 18-wheeler truck attempted to avoid the wrong way driver but ended up hitting another vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle was sent to a hospital in Louisiana for observation. It was not confirmed if he sustained injuries.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was identified as Carlise Coy Simmons, 75, of Mauriceille. Police believed he was under the influence during the time of the incident.
An investigation is still in progress.
Our sincerest sympathies to the victim of this unfortunate accident. We pray for their full recovery as we hope that the Orange County Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.
Drunk driving in Texas commonly result in a serious injury and sometimes, death. While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise.
While it can be difficult to remain calm in a situation like this, it is important to know that you can be entitled to compensation and claims following a collision. If you or your loved one has been injured in a car accident caused by a negligent party or a driver under the influence of alcohol, you may have a right to a fair compensation for the trauma you experienced and the injuries you have suffered.
