HOUSTON, TX — One person was hurt early Friday after a wrong-way driver crashed into another car on the North Freeway in Houston’s Independence Heights area, reports KHOU11.
Houston police said the crash occurred on the southbound freeway near the Crosstimbers Street exit, just north of the IH-610 North Loop, shortly before 2:00 a.m.
According to authorities, officers noticed a vehicle traveling against traffic on the southbound lanes and tried to overtake the driver, but the car collided head-on with another vehicle moments later.
At least one person had to be transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. Police did not confirm whether the injured person was the wrong-way driver or the driver hit head-on.
A section of the North Freeway was closed for part of Friday morning but has since reopened to traffic.
