HOUSTON, TX — One person was killed Friday morning in a fiery semi-truck collision on the Hardy Toll Road near north Houston’s Greater Greenspoint area, reports ABC13.
Authorities said the accident happened on the road’s inbound lanes near Aldine Bender Road at around 5:30 a.m.
An initial investigation shows the driver of the truck was heading southbound when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle swerved off the road and crashed into the retaining wall. The truck was sent over the barrier and erupted into flames in the impact.
It was unclear whether the person killed was the driver or a passenger.
No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles appeared to have been involved.
Crews shut down all inbound lanes during the emergency response and investigation. The closure was expected to remain in place for hours due to a hazmat spill.
The North Freeway was recommended as an alternate route around the scene.
Authorities have not released additional details on the circumstances behind the fatal event.
