The Odessa Police Department has released the identification of one of the three victims in a crash on 87th Street, reports say.

According to initial reports, the major wreck occurred at 87th Street and US Highway 385. A Toyota 4Runner was traveling along 87th Street when it was struck by a black H2 Hummer after entering US 385. The impact of the collision killed the Toyota driver instantly. She was identified as 36-year-old Melo Perez. Her passengers, identified only as 6-year-old, and a 2-year-old, sustained serious injuries from the crash. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but was later airlifted to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Hummer also sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. His identification has not been disclosed.

No further details were released as of this writing.

With sincerest sympathies, we would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We strongly believe that the Odessa Police Department will do everything to bring those responsible to justice.

In Texas, car collisions happen on a regular basis. Most of the time, these events result in injuries and fatalities. Victims involved in crashes are left to deal with life-threatening injuries, damages to property, and worse—emotional trauma. While accidents are fortuitous events that cannot be foreseen, they can be prevented if only drivers had simply put their complete attention on the road and taken their responsibility as drivers more seriously. This is why, despite conscious efforts by government to combat the increasing number of fatalities and injuries every year, crashes due to negligence is still on the rise.

We believe that when someone loses a loved one from a car accident, they do not only suffer emotionally but financially as well. If you or your loved one is a victim of a car accident caused by wrongful actions or due to negligence, you may have the right to file for legal claims. Most of the time, families who are left behind after a tragic loss are not aware of their rights and the legal processes needed to obtain fair and just compensation. In times like this, you would need a professional who can provide you with all the support you need as you go through this difficult time. Talk to your personal injury or car accident lawyer for assistance.
