Odessa- 79-year-old Woman Dies in a Car Accident on Northeast Loop 338

A Monday night collision turned tragic when an elderly woman was pronounced dead on Northeast Loop 338, according to Odessa Police Department.
At around 8:49 p.m., local officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the 7700 block of northeast Loop 338. A Nissan Sentra was traveling along the northbound lanes of the highway when it collided with a GMC pickup truck. The force of the impact left the driver of the pickup truck with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Medical Center Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead following the impact. She was later identified as 79-year-old Virginia Cupps.
Based on a preliminary investigation, Cupps was driving the wrong way when the accident took place. Police have yet to determine why she was heading south on a northbound lane.
The crash remains under investigation.
